You can’t be in Napa without going past or into wineries. We did go into this one, but it certainly left us dumfounded. Semi-buried in the ground at the centre of a young vineyard it certainly makes a statement. The wine had better be pretty good.
There is a fair collection of fake French chateaux around too, and the odd Tuscan villa. So I guess Opus gets applause for being clearly, brashly, American. But did they have to be quite so in your face.
Rightly or wrongly, Rutherford Hills below, fits rather more comfortably with my vision of America!
