The old A9

We drove north through the Highlands of Scotland today, along the A9 which has always been the main, and indeed only, north-south road between Stirling and Inverness. The modern road today is still too narrow and too slow, causing regular delays to traffic and speeding tickets for those inclined to push to hard. But it is a road with a long history and at many points previous versions of the road run alongside the current road, deserted except for a minimum of local traffic. We stopped for lunch today on one such stretch where I took this photograph.
