Temple of Piety

Fountains Abbey was dissolved in the C16th reformation, and sold into private hands. Then in the late C18 the estate was purchased by the owners of the neighbouring Studley estate and the two combined. The new owners were great landscape improvers and created one of the great English gardens in the combined estate. The picture above shows part of that garden, the Temple of Piety sited beside the moon and crescent lakes.
