Shot at Dawn

The other day I was going through some photographs from earlier this year when I cam across the picture above which I thought I should post on Remembrance Day. It was taken at the National Memorial Arboretum and commemorates those who were shot at dawn in World War I for cowardice. Today we would recognise that the huge majority of these young men were actually suffering from battlefield stress but that was not a condition that those in charge were prepared to acknowledge at the time. I found it one of the most moving memorials in the arboretum.
