We took a trip up to one of the many windfarms now in the North of Scotland, at Kilbraur near Golspie. I went expecting to be horrified at the scale of the intrusion into the landscape and visual and noise impact. Actuallu, I was pleasantly surprised by their gracefulness, and by the low level of habitat damage. There were deer grazing underneath the turbines.
I know they are contentious, and I certainly don’t want them to be ubiquitous but I was surprised by my reaction. They actually look better close up then from a distance. And I am convinced we need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, shale or no shale.
