Sandon church

The church at Sandon stands in splendid isolation, remote from the little village it serves. This is because Sandon was one of the last villages in England to be cleared and moved when the landowner wanted to reconfigure the parkland around his house. It happened here in 1776, and anew village built safely out of sight. It is worth remembering that clearances were not an uniquely Scottish phenomenon.
