The hills on which Valparaiso is built are punishingly steep and so the city has devised a unique network of furnicular railways to lift people up and down the hills. They are small and pretty ramshackle, like most of Valpo, but they seem to function. This one is named after Queen Victoria and I would think it dates from her reign.
