From the Amazon we flew to Rio de Janeiro. One of the first sites we visited was the extraordinary Cathedral of San Sebastian. Finished only in 1997, the form of the Cathedral is inspired by a Mayan pyramid. It is a huge open space which is both remarkably and practical in the hot, humid client of Rio. I had no idea what to expect when visiting and was very impressed by the building which is open at all four sides.
