I was shocked to learn the other day how modest the takings have been for The Artist. I saw the film about three weeks ago and was absolutely inspired. This is one of the most interesting and original films I have seen for a long time. Working within the framework of a traditional silent film, the director and stars have managed to produce a work of real creativity which is beautiful to look at and has leaving the cinema with a smile on your lips and a spring in your step.
I hear that some people have complained and asked for their money back because it was a silent movie. Shame on them. And not even accurate; it’s not silent. The musical score and the clever introduction of key sounds at key points is one of the highlights of the film. And the quality of the acting really does make speech unnecessary.
Go and see this film. If you have heart and soul you will not regret it.
