We had a wonderful walk in the Monti Sibilline yesterday. The weather was warm and above the tree line were meadows dotted with juniper and covered in wild flowers. It was hard to capture the overwhelming sense of colour but I hope these pictures give some impression.
Our starting and finishing point for the walk was the beautiful Sanctuario del Macerato, one of the most hauntingly beautiful of remote chapels. Built on the pilgrimage route to Loreto in a refined classical style, it could equally well serve as a temple to Flora, the Roman goddess of flowers and the spring.
