Portrait of Bibi Kujawa

Hello, my name is Bibi Kujawa. I am an illustrator, passionate about creating characters and places that tell a story. My main inspiration comes from everyday life, literature and the press. I love to create strange abstract characters presented in comic and tragic life situations. They are very often animals with human features, aliens or monsters. I hope my art with its weirdness can make people think of it in a symbolic way and help understand our reality with sense of humor. ©James Hall and Bibi Kujawa

This is the third in a developing series of photographs of Polish artists living and working in the UK. Bibi tells her own story very effectively in the caption above. I would only add that you can find examples of her daily work here:

In each of the pictures in this series I want the subject to tell his or her own story. As Bibi is an illustrator one way to achieve this was to have her contribute directly to the image. I think the result reflects the characters of both Bibi and her work very effectively.

I should also like to thank Paola Sammartino for her work on retouching the image.
